(Doug & Jet) Two Rode Together

Doug needed a break! He'd been walking for what felt like hours and he needed to get off of his feet. The worst part was he didn't even know where he was going. He had only met a couple pokemon along the way and as from what Doug had heard (from their thoughts, or maybe he had made them up himself. He still wasn't sure) they didn't want to stop and chat all that much. Nevertheless, he figured those guys had to have come from somewhere, so he decided to head in the direction they had came from as opposed to stalking them to where they were going to go.

Doug picked a nice comfortable tree and sat down with his back leaning up against it. He only needed a few minutes was all. Just until his feet didn't feel sore anymore. As Doug rested, he thought about investing in a pair of shoes. Do they even sell shoes anywhere around here? Doug wondered. With that, the Abra stretched out and tried to take a nap. If it takes the average human 11 minutes to fall asleep, I wonder how long it takes an Abra. Probably longer now that I'm thinking about it.

At first, the area around the Abra seemed all absent. The place was seemingly deserted now, and it seemed that Doug was going to get the peace he wanted. However, it wasn't to last very long as a loud cracking noise rang out through the open air. The noise was followed shortly by frantic thoughts of escape and of pursuit. A chase was being undertaken, if one were to draw a logical conclusion from such thoughts. And that was, in fact, exactly what was taking place at the moment. However, it was just outside of Doug's view.

That was quick to change, however, as a form came sprinting from the horizon in Doug's direction--accidently of course. He had no idea there was a Pokemon resting nearby. As the form got closer, it became apparant that it was a Buizel. He was desperately trying to get away from another form that was rapidly catching up with him--which could quickly identified as a Hitmonlee. The Buizel was losing ground and fast, despite the fact that he was scurrying as fast as he could on all four limbs. It wasn't long before he felt a foot collide with his back after the Hitmonlee used Jump Kick. He was slammed hard into the ground on his stomach, skidding for a few feet before coming to a stop. After turning around, the Hitmonlee was standing over him. Jet, the Buizel in question, looked up at the Hitmonlee with a look of fear in his eyes. "Wh-why are you doing this...?" he asked. He got no answer. Only that the Hitmonlee lifted his foot up again, and Jet flinched in anticipation, waiting for the pain that was sure to come. It looked like neither of them were aware of Doug's presence just yet....

Doug, startled by the sudden thoughts of pursuit, teleported behind the tree he had been sleeping under. Afterward, he looked at the scene just in time to see the Jump Kick make contact. Doug could no longer see the Buizel but he could see the Hitmonlee preparing another attack. Doug was as confused as the Buizel seemed to be about this attacker. Doug wasn't sure he wanted to get involved in a fight with that Hitmonlee, but he couldn't just sit there. The Abra gathered his focus onto the Hitmonlee and used Levitate to attempt to lift him into the air and break things up a little.

The Hitmonlee brought his foot down hard, expecting it to slam hard right onto the Buizel's face...but the impact never came. The Hitmonlee was lifted into the air and he had kicked down on nothing more than thin air. "Wh-what...?" the Hitmonlee growled. "What's going on here...?" The Hitmonlee whipped his head around left and right to find the source of the sudden interference. His eyes quickly fell on Doug, whom he could just barely see at this angle. Though he couldn't tell just what kind of Pokemon he was. "You...!" he growled upon seeing him. "You must be some Psychic type! Put me down now, or you'll get such a stomping...." He sounded serious but the threats were obviously hollow, considering he couldn't do anything in this situation.

Jet opened his eyes upon not feeling the foot slam down as expected. He turned his head and looked up and saw the Hitmonlee levitating in thin air, a purplish aura surrounding him. "Wh-what...?" he muttered. "Who...who's there...?" he looked around at their surroundings, but from his own angle, couldn't see Doug. Then the Hitmonlee started shouting and looking towards a tree...that must be where his savior was laying in secret. He was too stunned by this sudden turn of events to move or even think about getting up at the moment.

Doug stepped out from behind the tree into view. "We'll have time for introductions later." Doug said with a slight smile, trying to look 'bad' while at the same time knowing that even at full health, he couldn't hold the Hitmonlee up forever. Doug now addressed the Hitmonlee, "But for now, I believe this Buizel asked you a question, and I myself would like to know the answer as well. Why exactly are you doing this? And be careful how you answer." Doug was pretty sure this guy was attacking unprovoked, but he may as well have a fair chance to get his story straight if he can.

The Buizel and Hitmonlee both had the same thought at the same time as Doug stepped out. "An Abra...?" Except Jet muttered it aloud while the Hitmonlee kept it in his head. Regardless, the thoughts of surprise at him being an Abra emanated around the area. But, naturally, it was the Hitmonlee who spoke next. "What does it matter to you, exactly?" he muttered, obviously angered at the Abra's interference. "Put me down before I beat YOU up too!" The Hitmonlee growled. It was then that he started struggling, probably making it harder for Doug to concentrate, especially with the thoughts of annoyance, surprise and wonder bouncing around the area.

Doug only shrugged, "I guess you're right. It doesn't really matter to me. You're alltogether unimportant I suppose. So how about this, since I really don't have to care about you. Give me one good reason why you're important enough to me that I won't help this Buizel give you a stomping." Doug had been waiting for his chance to use his 'too cool for school' grin ever since he found out he had fans in Jarkitar. This was becoming quite the excercize for that grin.

The Hitmonlee smirked. "Alright, kid. You know what? I like your attitude." With that, he stopped struggling. "Heheh...Though I know I could beat both of you down, I think I'm gonna let the kid go this time. But if he interferes with my training again, he's got a beating coming to him, whether you're there or not." He then just waited to be lowered to the ground so that he could leave when released. He planned on leaving; he spoke the absolute truth, according to his thought patterns. Though Jet wasn't sure whether or not to believe him. In him was a mix of gratefulness to Doug, thankfulness that the Hitmonlee might let him go, and fear of the Hitmonlee himself.

If it weren't for the thoughts, Doug would never have believed the Hitmonlee. It did seem like he was telling the truth though. "Seems fair to me I guess." Doug said as he lowered the Hitmonlee, watching carefully just in case he decided to change his mind. "Then I suggest you get beack to your training." Doug was a little disappointed at the lack of a battle after being woken up from his nap. At least his feet weren't near as sore as they were before though. He still wanted to lie back down if he could after all this was sorted out, but he probably wouldn't be able to get back to sleep again anyway.

The Hitmonlee felt himself get lowered to the ground and he muttered, "Heh...well, I just might see you around, kids. So be careful where you tread. I have more territory than you'd probably like to think." It wasn't so much of a threat as it was a warning to 'watch your step'. With that, the Hitmonlee turned and headed back into the trees, quickly disappearing from sight, chuckling to himself.

Once the Hitmonlee was gone, Jet got back to his feet, turning to look at the Abra. "Hey...thanks for the save, Mr...uh...Abra." He rubbed the back of his neck nervously, slightly embarassed that he had tried to mention his name...when he didn't even have such information yet. "You're pretty cool. And I'm guessing kinda strong to make that Hitmonlee back off like that...." Even though Doug's strength had nothing to do with it, he felt like making some small conversation here.

"Hehe, not really, but you must be pretty strong yourself to think you could take a guy like that on." Doug didn't really realize how self glorifying that could be taken in this particular situation until he had said it. "The names Douglass. Douglass Host." Doug said, extending a hand to the Buizel, "And yourself?" The Abra was trying his best to return the favor of making conversation, but was still feeling some of the embarassment the Buizel was giving off through thoughts.

"Are you sure...?" Jet asked. "You seem pretty strong to me. And you seem so cool..." Then he heard Doug's next statements. "Who, me? No...heh...no, I'm not that strong. I'm probably the weakest person I know..." He looked down at the ground as he said this. "I'm...I'm such a weak coward. I didn't take him on...it was an accident, he got mad and I ran away. Anyway..." he looked back up at Doug and continued, "My name's Chet. Chet Mann. Though my friends call me Jet. I admit there's not much of a difference, but...nothing to do about it, I guess." He was still feeling disapointed that he had been too afraid to even stand and fight back.

"Well I guess it happens." Doug said, not sure whether he was talking about the nickname or the fight. This is kind of awkward. Doug thought, not sure who was thinking it or about what. Sure, the moment felt awkward a bit, but Doug also felt strange about the word 'cool'. He figured out about 35 years ago it's modern usage, and had gotten used to the idea of cool meaning hip, and hip meaning worthy of approval, but actually hearing it still felt weird. He hadn't actually tried using it yet. It felt so out of place in his mouth. Maybe he should give it a shot. "But actually, Im not all that 'with it' either... dawg." O0o, that didn't feel right.

Jet rubbed the back of his head as his conversation with Doug, this Abra that had just saved him from a beating, continued to grow more and more awkward. In which case, he decided that it was time for a change of subject. Maybe they could find something that they could more easily relate to? "So..." he muttered, trying to come up with something on the spot. "What...um...what brings you here? Were you just wandering the Field, or did you have a reason for being out here?" His attempts on the subject change was blatantly obvious...and Jet knew it. He just hoped that it didn't make the situation even more...strange than it already was.

"Wandering more or less. I guess you could say I'm just looking for anything worth looking for." Doug said smugly. "Maybe now I could look for a fight with that Hitmonlee. If I woulda known he was so full of himself, I might have gone for it. But I guess a deal is a deal." He turned back to the Buizel "So what were you doing before bumping into that Hitmonlee? Anything worthwhile?"

Jet listened to what Doug was saying. It had been less than five minutes since they met and he was already starting to look up to and respect the Abra. There was definitely more to him than met the eye. Then he was asked a question by said Abra and he suddenly grew a bit uneasy and nervous. Then again, it was probably just because he wasn't used to anybody being too interested in what he did.

"N-no..." the Buizel replied. "Nothing really.... I had just woken up in this place and just started wandering around. I came across that forest and went exploring for a bit...and wound up finding a few Pokemon that weren't happy with me being there. They said something about how it was 'their forest' and I told them that it belonged to every Pokemon around, and then...well, you know the rest."

Doug sensed Jet's uneasiness and was confused by it. He didn't really understand why the Buizel would have any reason to be nervous. "Oh, so he has friends." Doug said as he looked down as though he was still thinking about confronting the Hitmonlee despite his threats, but Doug figured it was unlikely that they would cross paths again and it was probably just his irritation at someone trying to push people around. Sure, the guy talked big, but how many connections can one pokemon possibly have?

"Well, you're wandering and I'm wandering. Why don't we just wander off in the same direction?" Doug said, also as though it were something immensely clever.

"Yeah..." Jet muttered. "He had three friends with him. A Hitmonchan, Granbull and a Weavile. They...all looked pretty strong to me. Any one of them probably could have pummeled me into the ground if I stuck around for too long...." He looked down again, once again putting himself down about his own strength. Well, he DID think himself weak and insignificant. But then...something suddenly brightened up his mood. This Abra had just asked if he wanted to come with him! "You...you really want...to...travel...with me?" the Buizel asked. He was just as shocked as he was happy at the thought.

"Y-yeah...!" Jet said. "I-I'd love to travel with you, if you REALLY don't mind somebody...well, like me tagging along. Are you sure I won't just...get in your way or something?" He smiled a bit, though...glad at the thought that somebody thought he wasn't all that bad. He had a feeling that they were going to be great friends....

"Well it would be pretty hard for you to get in my way seeing as there's no particular way that I'm going at this point." Doug said. This Buizel seemed to have a serious problem with belittleing himself. Surely he couldn't be that much of a problem. "Although picking a way to go wouldn't be too bad an idea." Doug offered. He had no idea where he really was, and it probably wasn't a good idea to head back to that forest if the guy had friends. "So what do you think?"

"W-well..." Jet muttered, in response to Doug's replies. "I guess you're right.... And maybe I can get better and stronger while I follow you around...." He purposely didn't say 'travel with' because he figured that he wasn't 'worthy' of being a travel partner. "Picking a way...?" he said. "Me...? Uh...alright.... I, uh...think there's a city in that direction...." He pointed in a westernish direction. "I guess we could go that way...you know, if you want to."
