Something is different... (Blake)

Blake slowly opened his eyes, his vision blurred. The sun nearly blinded him and it took him a few minutes just to get his eyes open. He began to sit up, but as soon as he did his head began to throb. "OUCH" he screamed rather loudly as he tried to feel the bump on his head. But as he did he noticed something slightly different about the shape of his head. It seemed as though a large crown-like structure had formed on his head. 'Could it be? Am I home? Finally back home wearing my crown!?' But then his memory started to come back to him. 'The last thing I can remember is when I was with Édouard and I had just chugged down a Power Lemonade.'

Then it dawned on him. 'Could it be that I have evolved!?' he crawled over to a nearby puddle and noticed that it was true! He had indeed become a Weavile. Blake was rather disappointed that he was not back home like he had hoped, but he did feel slightly more powerful than before. He then began looking around for Édouard, or anyone for that matter.

Not far from where Blake came to, Édouard the Ledyba lay sprawled out on the grass, on his stomach, as if he were hit with some massive force and knocked out-cold. The stimuli of reality slowly seeped into him, and he rolled onto his feet with a start. "Vat?!" he shouted angrily in his angry fashion. "Vhere am I!? Vat happened?!" He took to hovering, his wings buzzing back and forth like a hummingbird's. He then proceeded to do a 360 degree scan of the area, and his sights fell on a Weavile that stood out among the flora.

"Is zat... is zat Blake?!" he exclaimed, not used to the sudden change in his appearance. But then, he remembered - the last thing he saw Blake do before randomly blacking out is drink some Power Lemonade. He had only heard of the liquid, but he had heard enough. Blake had evolved.

But that still didn't explain what had just happened. Did they black out because he drank the Lemonade? This area didn't look familiar... They had been in a forest, and now they were suddenly in a grassy field. One which Édouard didn't recognize in the slightest. He didn't like to admit it, but he was utterly lost and confused. Sheepishly, but with as much confidence as he could get, he approached Blake. "'Ey! Weavile!" he called. "Do you know vat ze heck happened ova here?!"

Blake's ears began twitching when he heard the sound of Édouard's wings fluttering about. The sound was familiar to him but he couldn't quite pinpoint it until Édouard began calling out to him. He turned around quickly and ran towards him. "Édouard!" he yelled. Then he realized that he had lost his usual composure. It was just that he was happy to see a familiar face because at this point, even his own face wasn't that familiar to him. He cleared his throat and continued. "It's me, Blake, and honestly I have no idea whats going on either. I was hoping you would." He began surveying the field. "It doesn't seem like anyone else is here, unless they are all hiding or something..."

Blake began feeling the top of his head once again. "Heh, how do you like my new crown? Fitting, eh?" Blake then realized that he was talking much more than usual. 'What is going on with me? Édouard is not to be trusted completely yet. This new transformation must be making me crazy or something.'

Édouard scoffed lightly at Blake's first statement. He was amused that Blake figured that he was knowledgeable of the whole ordeal, and that he would turn to him for advice in such a situation, but he saw Blake as being too hasty to jump to conclusions. As Blake looked around, so did Édouard once more - but neither of them saw anybody around. "Feh," remarked Édouard under his breath, "I vould hide from zat ugly face too if I had half an idea vere I vas..."

Édouard took one look at Blake's "crown" and rolled his eyes. "You ahr no more royalty zen I am," he responded coldly. "At least it draws ze attention from ze face." Realizing he had said that aloud, he regretted it for a moment, but shrugged it off. He glanced around the field a third time, trying to get a general idea of where they were, or what kinds of landmarks were nearby. In the distance, he could barely make out a tower of some kind... a tall silhouette of a spire, ambiguous as to its purpose but standing out as a sign of civilization. He had a hunch that if he (and Blake, if he decided to stay with him for whatever reason) were to travel in that direction, he might figure out where they were. He decided to keep silent about it for now and see if Blake noticed it... perhaps he could find a way to ditch him later as long as the Weavile had no clue where Édouard would run off to.

Blake glared at Édouard as he was blatently insulted. 'And he claims that I'm arrogant. Hmph. Maybe I'd be better off without such an insulting pokemon around.' Blake had also spotted the tower off in the distance. 'Where theres a building there must be pokemon,' Blake thought 'and they couldn't be worse than that Ledyba at this point.' So, Blake began strolling off toward the tower. "Come if you wish..." he said as he was walking away. "Or don't, whatever." He spat on the ground as he walked away to show his distaste at the way Édouard had treated him. Blake had finally been genuinely happy to see him for once and he had gotten stepped all over.

Édouard stared, blinking in a genuinely surprised manner, at Blake as he walked away, without regards to whether or not he followed. He looked back at what he said. It was in his nature to spurt out insults, but he often did so without paying any mind to how it would affect his target. And especially now, when he was totally lost, he needed somebody, a familiar face whom he could stick by to survive the crazy changes and the unfamiliar world. As much as he hated to admit it, he needed Blake now more than ever, and he had carelessly taken his confusion out on him.

...I'm going to hate myself in ze morning, thought Édouard as he hustled after Blake, knowing that the thought could be taken to mean nearly anything at this point. He couldn't bring himself to apologize... or say anything, for that matter. He caught up to the Weavile, warily keeping his distance so as not to offend him further, and hovered alongside him toward the apparent structure.

However, Édouard was not the only one following Blake at that time... Silently stalking the pair, a Pokemon - no, a group of Pokemon, darted from cover to cover, hiding behind trees and shrubs. It was a creepy vibe, one that suggested that they were about to become the prey of a large pack of predators... perhaps it was exactly what it says on the tin. Gut feelings can be right, some of the time.

Blake heard Édouard follow along after him and he wasn't surprised. 'I knew he would come. I'm not sure if I'm happy or not. Even though I might need a hand, I'm not sure if enduring too many more of those insults is worth it.' But before Blake could think any more he heard something else. It was faint and distant, and it definitely wasn't Édouard. For the moment he just kept it in the back of his mind and continued walking. He wasn't in the mood to talk to Édouard and he would take action against whatever was following him if necessary. For all he knew they might just go away without him needing to deal with them.

He was definitely getting closer to the tower and he was curious about what the place was. In fact, soon he felt the need to get there faster. So, he used agility to speed up. 'I wonder if Édouard will be able to keep up with me, and maybe those pursuers will get tired out and leave us alone.'

As soon as Blake used Agility, Édouard was quite surprised. He wondered if Blake wanted to see if he could keep up, and therefore was worth keeping around; or if perhaps he just wanted Édouard gone. So, he hasted his wings, barely able to keep up with the Weavile. If he wanted to get back on Blake's good side, or at least off of his bad, then he had to come up with something to say before too long.

But Édouard did not consider the possibility that they were being followed, and that Blake detected it before he did. Which was a lot closer to the truth. Said followers, indeed, were getting uneasy - to them, it was obvious that their prey knew he was being followed, and they had to strike now or forfeit the chance for good. There was a shrill cry, which rang throughout the forest. Moments later, three Pokemon jumped in front of Blake and Édouard's path, and sprang at both of them with what appeared to be a Spark attack. This stopped the Ledyba in his tracks, knocking him onto his back and temporarily stunning him.

Blocking the path were two Shinx and a Luxio, all of which looked quite angry. A territorial dispute, no doubt. It wasn't long after that when two more Shinx appeared behind Blake and Édouard, blocking the other way out as well. And to top it all off, there were several more Shinx observing from the bushes, waiting to cut them off if they attempted to escape through the foliage at the side. The Luxio stepped forward, guarded on each side by his Shinx cohorts.

"Ignorant pests!" yelled the Luxio, obviously the pack leader. "Don't think you can venture into our territory and get away with it! This is Shinx's hunting ground. Any Pokemon that set foot on our soil will be taken down and robbed of their possessions and Power!" He glared directly at Blake, with a dark smirk. "And you look like you have a lot of Power... Just what we were waiting for."

Each of the Shinx that were in the open, as well as Luxio, began to close in on Blake and Édouard. They looked like they would pounce at any moment, but perhaps they were waiting for the opposing duo's first move.

Since Blake was already moving at a slightly faster speed than Édouard he was able to evade a bit more of the attack. But, he was his backwards nonetheless. He was able to stay on his feet. Blake looked over at Édouard and began to frown. Even if he hadn't been the best friend lately, Édouard had still helped him out before in the past and Blake didn't like seeing his comrades get injured. Blake grimaced at the leader or the group, Luxio. "I didn't have any problem with you, not until now. We were just on our way to that tower over there. You have no right to attack us!"

Blake began cackling and a dark aura began to emanate from his body. He was using Nasty Plot. "I am warning you, leave now and I will let you go. But if you get any closer to me you will surely regret it!" he said between his maniacal cackling.

Luxio looked back at the Weavile strangely, hearing all of those threats while being utterly surrounded. He couldn't help but laugh right back, with at least an equal amount of confidence. "Listen to this fool," sneered the pack leader, "He's asking us to leave our own territory. Well, pay attention. YOU are the one who is lacking in rights. These lands have been under Shinx control for generations. If you think you can cut through here just to save some time, you are gravely mistaken."

Édouard managed to get back to his feet during Luxio's counter-threat. He faced the leader defiantly, back in his grouchy opposing mood. "Nobody charges me and Blake like zat and gets away with et!" he yelled. "I don't care if zis IS your territory; we can kick your posteriors any time, any place!"

Luxio stopped laughing. He had had his fun, but now it was time to get down to business. "A bold statement," he stated. "Let's see if you have the strength to back up those words! Shinx! Attack!"

The four Shinx surrounding Édouard and Blake leaped into action immediately. The one in front of Blake began to Charge his strength, boosting the power of his future Electric-type attacks. At the same time, the one in back of Blake rushed at him from behind with a Thunder Fang. In front of Édouard, the Shinx started to rush at him with Crunch, and the one behind him began to use a Discharge. All of the opponents had their minds set on eliminating the duo as soon as they could.

Blake continued focusing all of his energy into his Nasty Plot as the Luxio gave it's commands. He knew that this was not the best situation and that they would be lucky to get out of it alive, so he could use all of the advantage he could get. As Édouard fought back with his own words Blake was surprised. 'Doesn't he know how outnumbered we are? Plus, all of these pokemon have a type advantage against him.' It seemed like if they wanted to win this battle most of the weight would have to rest on Blake.

As all of the Shinx began their attacks Blake waited for them to get pretty close, but as they did he used Dark Pulse in an attempt to push them back and maybe even make some of them flinch the next turn. 'I might just be able to hold them off if this attack works, but what about Édouard? Feh, I don't have enough time to worry about him. He saved me once, he should be able to handle himself.'

The Shinx that had used Charge was beginning to feel glad that he had not rushed at Blake from the start, as the one in back was knocked aside with a powerful Dark Pulse attack. The hit Shinx had been swept off his feet and onto his stomach, indeed flinching from the blow. However, as soon as the attack was over, the first Shinx used a Discharge attack, aimed directly at Blake and with a greater amount of power than before thanks to his Charge.

Édouard, on the other hand, was able to send both of his Shinx out of commission with ease. He simply waited for the first one to get close enough while watching the other out of the corner of his eye, and as soon as the second Shinx fired the Discharge, he hovered higher over the field, causing the first Shinx to get hit by the other's attack. Of course, as Electric vs Electric isn't very effective, the first Shinx was back up quickly, but by then Édouard had already created a tornado of Silver Wind. He split the whirlwind in two different directions, dividing the strength of the attack but causing both enemies to get hit at once.

After Blake had deflected his first attacker he glanced over to notice how easily Édouard was handling his attackers. 'Well, at least I don't have to worry about him.' But the problem was, by taking this glance he had forgotten to protect himself. When he looked back at the other Shinx all he saw was a blinding light of electricity. "BAHH!" Blake screamed as he was shocked. He was in a state of utter pain for about four seconds but he was able to shake it off after not too long. He was slightly injured though, and it smelled like he had just been barbecued.

'Darn it all, that little bugger is going to pay!' Blake quickly regained his composure and launched a Shadow Drain attack at the Shinx that had hurt him. By using this attack he hoped not only to get revenge on the Shinx for damaging him, but he also hoped to steal some of it's energy to use for himself.

Perhaps a bit smug from the last successful attack, the targeted Shinx had let his guard down for a few moments, and the Shadow Drain connected. A squeal of pain emitted from the Shinx's vocal chords, and a hefty amount of energy was drained from him. It was almost enough to recover the damage Blake took from the previous attack. However, the other Shinx wasted no time in coming back at Blake, attempting to ram him from behind with a Spark. It seemed that the second Shinx's strategy was to hit him with as many Electric-type attacks as possible in the hopes of paralyzing him.

Meanwhile, the first Shinx on Édouard's side of the field recovered quickly and attempted another Thunder Fang. Édouard was more than ready for him, and he seemed to disappear for a moment. A split-second later, he appeared behind the Shinx and slashed him across the back with his lower-right leg. A strange move for a Ledyba, but he was somehow able to pull it off. He failed to notice the other Shinx, however, who leaped up at Édouard's behind with a Crunch. He nailed one of his wings, and he lost his balance in the air for a short while, leaving him open from an attack by the first Shinx.

Blake felt his strength coming back to him as he drained the very life out of the Shinx. 'What a strange sensation, I've never felt anything quite like this before. It reminds me of taxing the citizens...only even better!' Blake was so distracted by this great new feeling and Édouard being hit by the Crunch attack that he completely neglected to notice the first Shinx that he had shaken off. It was coming at him again, and fast. He took the attack much like he had taken the charged Spark attack. He was in pain for a few seconds, but this time the pain refused to stop and he found himself unable to retaliate. Blake was completely paralyzed from head to toe, and there was nothing he could do about it. Maybe he would be able to attack in a few turns, but he was afraid by then he would be toast. He really hated to have to ask for help from Édouard. He wasn't the best at asking for help and Édouard was already in trouble himself, but there seemed to be no other option.

"Édouard..." he paused for a second, knowing Édouard would probably make him regret this later "I need some help over here!" As he waited for the assistance that he knew may never come he wriggled around trying to get out of the mess he found himself in. He was able to start twitching his ears and wiggling his toes, but other than that it seemed like at least for this turn he would be unable to protect himself.

Édouard turned his head from his spot on the ground, glaring at Blake. Oh, NOW he needs my help... he thought, too winded to speak the words, as he certainly would've done if he had the breath. He glanced back towards the front, where a Shinx had already started to advance on him with another Thunder Fang. Thinking quickly, he did the first thing that came to mind - and in a series of POOFs, everyone's positions had been switched around. Édouard had just used Baton Pass, and he and Blake were now facing the Shinx that had clipped the Ledyba's wing earlier, while the other three were standing dumbfounded on the opposite side of the field.

"Ha!" chortled Édouard. "Imagine zat! Let's punish zis pack animal!" He practically dove at the Shinx with a Comet Punch, overwhelming him with the sheer amount of fists flying. The foe didn't stand a chance of making any action any time soon. The other three Shinx looked at each other, nodded, and all three of them began to use Charge. They were attempting to make the most of the sudden switch-up; perhaps the Baton Pass would be more advantageous to them after all.

Blake had begun to brace for impact when the Shinx came at him but he felt no pain. He slowly opened his eyes and looked around. It seemed that he and Édouard had been transported out of danger's way. "Phew" Blake sighed, "that could have been nasty." Blake was able to move a little bit more now too. As Édouard went after one Shinx, Blake looked over at the others. Just as he did they began their charge attack. 'If they are allowed to charge for too long their attacks will become nearly unstoppable. I can't let that happen.'

Although he wasn't able to move completely yet Blake was able to use a Taunt attack in hopes of making some of the Shinx unable to continue charging. This may not have been the smartest move though, since Blake wasn't sure if he would be able to move if they attacked too soon.

Édouard hammered the Shinx with one final uppercut attack, putting nearly every muscle in his body into that one punch and landing on all sixes. His opponent wasn't so lucky to land on even one; the Shinx lay on its back, motionless and hesitating to dare pick himself back up. "I can see now why zey are so desperate for Power," snorted Édouard. The Luxio growled at this comment, but he was confident enough that his other three henchmen could complete the job.

The Taunt worked, all right - the Shinx were forced to cut their Charges short. Unfortunately, they had accumulated enough power from it to be glowing with electricity. It wouldn't be long before they released it all at once, and probably for mostly Blake. Édouard turned around just in time to see them all preparing a collective Discharge, and thinking quickly, he reached into his pocket and tossed a Cheri Berry at Blake with a cry of "Zink fast!" He knew he might be able to dodge the attack himself, particularly because they weren't aiming for the Ledyba, but while Blake was paralyzed, he was pretty much doomed.

Blake was able to catch the berry and shove it in his mouth. He almost instantly felt better. He was still sore from being shocked silly a few times but he was at least able to move again. He had been keeping his eyes on the Shinx planning to use Discharge on him and he had been trying to dodge for some time already. So once he found himself mobile again he quickly used agility and moved back and forth at light speed. At this high speed he was able to see the massive attack and dodge it for the most part.

He could have sworn he felt at least a small zap but it could have just been his new paranoia of becoming paralyzed again. He was glad that he had used the taunt attack afterall, or else that small zap he thought he felt may have been enough to do some real damage. But, one thing he had forgotten was to look out for Édouard. Blake swiftly ran back to him to make sure that he was okay. He wasn't sure why he was so worried about the Ledyba. They weren't even aiming for him. 'I won't forgive myself if he's hurt. He saved me and now I must return the favor.'

The Shinx's Discharge exploded into an attack far bigger than anyone could have predicted. Of course, it wasn't a uniform field of electricity, as it is difficult to coordinate such accuracy with two other attacks and little communication, but it was huge nonetheless. Blake was lucky enough to have passed through one of the larger gaps, thanks to his increased speed and Ledyba-assisted health. Unfortunately, between the hugeness of the attack and the minor distraction of tossing a berry to Blake, Édouard was unable to find a good place to dodge. His insect body was riddled with electricity, and he collapsed to the ground.

The Shinx had to take a quick breather after unleashing such power. Édouard was quite surprised that Blake came over to his side; even though he helped the Weavile out earlier, he hadn't expected anything in return. But as long as he was there... "Blake..." he sputtered, "Zere's a Sitrus Berry in my inventory... I cannot reach it..." He didn't want to say it aloud, but he was too weak to move at all. He was part Flying-type, after all, and being zapped by a triple Discharge was tough to take even for a regular Pokemon. The Shinx began to approach slowly and re-surround their opponents, hoping to catch them by surprise before long.
